LCTC Advances V2G Technology to Support Smarter, Greener Energy Systems

As electric vehicle (EV) adoption accelerates, the need for smarter, more flexible energy infrastructure has never been greater. Why V2G Matters

V2G technology enables two-way energy flow between electric vehicles and the power grid, supporting a wide range of applications such as peak shaving, virtual power plants, and energy trading. With EVs acting as mobile energy storage units, V2G transforms them from passive consumers into active participants in the energy system.

As of the end of 2023, China had more than 20.4 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) on the road — a 56% increase year over year. Of these, 15.5 million were battery electric vehicles. According to State Grid forecasts, that number could surpass 100 million by 2030.

This rapid growth presents both challenges and opportunities. On one hand, it puts pressure on grid infrastructure and increases the complexity of energy dispatch. On the other, it creates vast potential for flexible load management — especially as renewable energy sources like wind and solar introduce greater variability into the grid.

 

LCTC’s Role: Smart V2G in Action

LCTC has been an early mover in the field of V2G, offering advanced AC/DC bidirectional charging systems that help stabilize the grid, maximize energy efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions.

In China Petroleum’s first off-site charging station in Shanghai, LCTC deployed 5 AC/DC V2G chargers and 15 dual-outlet DC fast chargers, enabling simultaneous service for up to 40 vehicles at 120 kW capacity. The station is expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by over 372 tons annually.
